Jacques continues, " . . . they insisted that I keep the jewel. I said 'No no no.' They said 'You must!' I agreed to keep it out of politeness. They said that I now owed them a nose and one eye. I tried to give the jewel back, but it was stuck to my hat. They grabbed my head and scraped off my already unusually flat facial features. I wept. They magicked a fake eye and nose onto my face." By now the wizards are close enough to enter the conversation, "Unfortunately everything this boy has said is a lie."
